So I hear the “petting” mini-game in Fire Emblem Fates is getting removed for Western release. You’d have been able to show affections for a character by stroking their face, patting their head, etc. It’s being removed because one of the romance options is your adoptive sister, and apparently @nintendo was getting a negative response from it.
But. We don’t CARE. I have all of Game of Thrones on DVD, and one of the main recurring plot points is actual incest. The adoptive sibling/cute head patting is a common trope in Japanese fiction, and I don’t want it removed because some idiots that aren’t going to buy the game anyway complained.
This isn’t just changing poorly received dialogue, this is removing game content and still selling it at the normal retail price. If people don’t want to do an optional mini-game, they don’t have to do it! But if people want to, they shouldn’t be forced to learn a second language because Nintendo is cutting content from their games for international release! Get your priorities straight Nintendo, you should prioritize the game experience first. Remember, this is a game including kidnapping, war, and murder, so please don’t water it down for the adults that actually love you (ie, most of your diehard fans, the ones with disposable income) because you’re afraid of upsetting people who will complain no matter what you do.
People, please reblog this. Even if you don’t care about the mini-game or Fire Emblem in general. Nintendo shouldn’t go down this path of removed content and release bias, no game company should.
